WHAT I LEARNED FROM DR DENSTEDT: What I Learned From Dr Denstedt

By: Ben H. Chew, MD, FRCSC, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada | Posted on: 06 Apr 2023

I was incredibly lucky and privileged to have completed a fellowship under Dr John Denstedt. Not only did I learn how to do percutaneous nephrolithotomy access and ureteroscopy, more importantly, I learned how to maintain the highest integrity in everything you do. He is a role model for carrying out research, leading teams, and interacting with medical students, residents, nurses, and industry partners. I owe so much to his valuable mentorship. He has done so much for urology, endourology, and me, personally. He has taught me so many valuable lessons, but never with long-winded lectures, but by quiet example and strong leadership. I consider myself very lucky to have trained with him. Thank you, Dr Denstedt, for all you have done for me, and for endourology.
