AUA AWARD WINNERS AUA Presidential Citation for Dedicated Service and Leadership in Pediatric Urology

By: Hillary L. Copp, MD, MS, University of California, San Francisco | Posted on: 19 Apr 2024

I am deeply grateful to receive an AUA Presidential Citation for dedicated service and leadership in pediatric urology and the education of pediatric urology fellows.

The challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated innovative solutions to ensure the continuity of education for our learners. The creation of an online lecture series, PedsUroFLO (Pediatric Urology Fellowship Lectures Online), featuring national and international speakers, was a response to the abrupt reduction, and for a period the complete cessation, of clinical and surgical experience for our learners and providers. I view this award as a tribute to the collective efforts of pediatric urology faculty across the nation and worldwide who demonstrated their devotion to continuing high-impact education during the most devastating phases of the COVID-19 outbreak. Participating faculty provided live didactic sessions followed by Q and A and discussion over a Zoom platform hosted by the University of California, San Francisco. Participants included residents, fellows, students, advanced practice providers, and practicing pediatric urologists. The lectures were recorded so that participants unable to attend live would have access at any time. The activity was accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education credits for licensed medical professionals. A total of 48 lectures were delivered by experts in the field, and this incredible educational repository is still accessible through YouTube by searching “PedsUroFlo.”

I am extremely humbled to receive the AUA Presidential Citation and accept it on behalf and in honor of my colleagues whose collaborative efforts led to this shared success. The pediatric urology community adapted to change, embraced innovation, and found new avenues to connect and educate our learners and each other during this time of adversity. Thank you.
