Do what you do so well that they will want to see it again and bring their friends.

The AUA Annual Meeting presents unique opportunities for learning through experience.

Undoubtedly, learning styles, generational preferences, and time constraints all factor into how attendees will engage with the 2024 Annual Meeting. However, to gain the most from the experience, we recognize that our learners must engage and actively participate. With that in mind, the program developed for AUA2024 is full of learning through experience, and I hope you will seek out and find that which you need. To potentially help, highlighted below are some of the great learning opportunities.

AUA2024 offers a lineup of skill training activities. We know your time at the meeting is valuable, so these courses emphasize a heavily interactive hands-on experience. As such, these trainings combine premeeting work and didactic lectures followed by immersive hands-on sessions instructed by highly accomplished and experienced faculty. If you have the educational need and want to refine or develop surgical skills, we highly recommend you consider one of these courses:

  • A Specialized Masterclass for Single-Port Robot-Assisted Surgery (new this year!)
  • Surgical Laser Enucleation of the Prostate
  • Prostate MR Imaging: What a Urologist Should Know
  • Transperineal Prostate Interventions: Systematic Biopsy, Rectal Spacer, and TP Fusion Biopsy
  • Regaining Control: A Practical Guide on Treating Stress Urinary Incontinence in Men
  • Advanced Renal Ultrasound for Percutaneous Access, Biopsy & Tube Placement
  • Percutaneous Renal Access Tips and Techniques

Beyond the skill training opportunities, I encourage you to peruse our list of instructional courses (https://www.auanet.org/AUA2024/program). We recognize the field of urology is continually evolving and so have included almost 25% new instructional course sessions this year spanning the full spectrum of benign and malignant diseases. I highly recommend purchasing a course pass as this allows you to seamlessly go between these instructional courses based on your interest and the timing of the programming.

Another way to gain experience is through collaboration with colleagues to learn the most updated information on diseases and therapies. “The Evolving Landscape of Advanced Prostate Cancer Treatment: A Guidelines and Case-Based Discussion,” presented by the AUA in partnership with the Society of Urologic Oncology, is an excellent opportunity to work through case studies in small groups with your colleagues. This comprehensive, interactive course equips urologic professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage patients with advanced prostate cancer. There is no fee to participate but registration is required: https://www.auanet.org/AUA2024/register/pre-meeting-programs

If you are looking for professional development and building on nonclinical competencies, the new Leadership & Business education track offers some great education. I highly recommend the “Negotiation and Conflict Resolution: Interactive Workshop with Practical Tools and Skills for Physicians” session. This course will follow a workshop model involving participation of all attendees focusing on values and beliefs, emotional intelligence, and distributive and integrative bargaining. Attendees will leave with an understanding of how to better address conflict and engage in negotiation: https://www.auanet.org/AUA2024/attendee-info/institute-for-leadership-and-business

AUA2024 is crafted to support your needs. We hope you come prepared to learn something new and gain new experiences. If you have any questions or recommendations, please email education@auanet.org. We welcome an open dialogue with our members.
